Pastor Harris Apologizes for Remarks Encouraging Parents to “Punch” Their Gay Kids

Sean Harris, a North Carolina pastor from Berean Baptist Church has retracted his comments to his congregation during a sermon that parents should “punch” their children who exhibit homosexual behavior. He said he didn’t intend to offend the LGBT community with his remarks, but rather was attempting to “communicate the word of God regarding marriage. I apologize to anyone I have unintentionally offended,” Sean Harris wrote in a statement on his church’s website.

Last Sunday, Harris also encouraged parents to “crack the wrists” of their sons who appear to be homosexual, telling them to “man up.” “You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male,” Harris told parents to tell their sons.

Harris told the Fayetteville Observer that the comments were meant as a joke and that no one in the church took him seriously. Watch the video here and tel me what you think.

He ought to apologize. He has not heaven or hell to put one person in. If he makes it to heaven, he is going to be surprised who he sees there and startled and shocked by whom he does not. I am not condoning homosexuality, because the Bible says it is wrong, but if preachers were honest the word “abomination” is said many, many times in the bible and it refers to a whole lot of sins that the preachers overlook. The behavior of sassy, rebellious, embarrassing children who break their parents’ hearts is referred to as an abomination (just for starters). I’m bored with preachers who can only work up a fervent sermon when they are gay bashing. ALL sin needs to be sternly addressed.
